Cashbooks and daybooks, 1833 and 1835-1844, kept by the Mott family firm of jewelers and watchmakers J.H. Mott and Jordan Mott, Jr. (originally listed as the firm of James S. Mott and Jordan Mott, Jr.) of New York City. Entries record customer accounts and payments for watch and jewelry repairs and watches and items of jewelry purchased; along with money paid out by members of firm for supplies, parts, loans, engraving work, postage, etc. Individual accounts include entries for the watchmaker Garrit S. Mott of the firm of Mott Brothers. Inscription in ink on the front cover of the invoice and cashbook, 1835, 1839-1844, reads: Garrit S. Mott & M. Hopper Mott Mott Brothers." Inscription at the head the first page of entries reads: "James S. Mott Invoice Book." Volume contains 35 pages of expenses recorded by James S. Mott followed by 356 pages recording daily customer accounts for repair work.
